The Golden Comet – steelhead and salmon fly tying tutorial

13/04/2022/i Video, Video - Flytying /af Michael Jensen

The Comet is like the Boss fly’s flashy twin. Check out our video on the Boss right here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7ttKe2htsM&t=5s

These two slim and elegant wingless flies were born in the rivers on the American West Coast. There are different opinions on who started tying flies combining bead chain eyes and a tail made of hair. The first Comets though, were tied by Virgil Sullivan, while the Boss series were developed, or at least popularized, by Grant King.

The Golden Comet was probably designet for Pacific Shad, but today it is best known as a salmon and steelhead fly. I use it for seatrout (sea run brown) and for lake brownies. Will also catch bass, anykind of trout, perch and a variety of other species, though.

Thanks for watching :0)
