Gary LaFontaine's Double Wing (variation)
So I got a little crazy with a variation of Gary LaFontaine’s Double Wing dry fly. Sure, stick with traditional colors and tie this big for a stonefly or hopper imitation. Or small for a caddis fly. Or tie it in crazy colors and call it an attractor pattern. Either way, this is a fun one to tie.
Hook: #6-16 dry fly
Thread: Any, but try to match the body
Tail: Sparkle yarn, thin
Underwing (or over tail in this variation): elk hair
Rib: Palmered hackle, clipped on the top and bottom
Body: Any dubbing
Wing: White calf tail
Hackle: Grizzly hackle
