Utah’s Green River – Fly Fishing the Aquarium
The crystal clear water of Utah’s Green River is home to some of the world’s finest trout. There is only one problem, the water is so clear and the fish are so big that it can often times get frustrating to watch refusal after refusal. That’s when going subsurface with your flies comes in handy.
There is a lot of fishing pressure on the “A” section of the Green. There are some awesome long glides that hold sipping trout most spring afternoons. I prefer to fish the riffles and faster moving water where the fish seem to be a little more willing to play. Once an epic hatch kicks in I love to throw dries to big fish, but before and after the hatch it’s definitely worth working the nymphs.
The highlight of this trip was the time I was able to spend with my dad and brother John. They are great company, and as you can tell by the bridge section of the film they are not in too big of a hurry to miss out on relaxing and enjoying the river.
The music in the film was done by an amazing artist Ryan Hawthorn. You can follow him on Facebook for more great stuff: www.facebook.com/rhawthorn

One more thing about the Green, the Salt Lake Tribune did a documentary style video on this river that provides some great info. Here is there description and link:
“Utah’s Green River below Flaming Gorge Dam is one of the most scenic and most productive fisheries in the West. The world-class Blue Ribbon water runs for 30 miles to the Colorado border. Some estimates say there are 20,000 trout per river mile in the upper stretches. Anglers find a plethora of big brown trout and rainbow trout. An underwater camera catches a unique glimpse of the numerous fish and emerald colors of the river.”
FISH ON!
