Tying the Hot Wire Prince Nymph (Charlie Craven Pattern)
Almost a cross between the famed Copper John Nymph and a Prince Nymph, the Hot Wire Prince has the best of both patterns. A wire body over weighted wraps, and a tungsten bead will have this fly sinking like a rock. A super effective pattern that can be tied in any color combination you want.
Hook: #12-18 Nymph
Thread: Black
Tail: Brown goose biots
Body: Wire, contrasting colors
Thorax: Peacock Herl
Wings: White goose biots
Hackle: Brown hen
I tied this pattern from Charlie Craven’s “Tying Nymphs.” An excellent book with several stellar fly patterns and Charlie’s expert advice on how to use some simple and some advanced techniques. Well worth checking out if you don’t already have it.
