The Trude Adams Dry Fly Pattern — Trout Fly Tying
A modern twist the the Adams Dry Fly, adding the trude wing doesn’t change much from the fish’s perspective but does give the fisherman a bit more visibility. This high-floating fly pattern can be fished effectively as a single fly through fast and riffled water or used as the top fly in a dry/dropper rig.
No American fly fishing box should be without a few Adams flies of various styles!
Hook: Dry #12-16
Thread: Black
Tail: Moose mane
Body: Gray dubbing, muskrat or fine fur/synthetic
Wing: White calf tail
Hackle: Grizzly and brown
Savage Flies is a project (named after one of my homewaters, the Savage River in Western Maryland, US). I’ve been trout fishing for many years but have only been tying for the last couple and am learning more every week. If you have any pointers on techniques that would help, I would love to hear them in the comments.
