Jack Cabe Hopper – Fly Tying Appalachian/Great Smoky Mountain Trout Patterns
Created by Jack Cabe, a western North Carolina fly tier, this hopper is an extremely buoyant pattern that can easily be seen in fast or broken water. (By the fish and the fisherman.) While it may look more like a caddis or stonefly from underneath it is still an excellent attractor pattern.
Hook: #10-16 dry fly
Thread: Black
Tail: Red Hackle Fibers
Body: Molehair dubbing (or semi-buggy tan fur)
Wing: Calftail, light brown or white
Hackle: Grizzly and brown dry fly hackle
Savage Flies is a project with the mission of encouraging and teaching fly tying to as many people as possible. The channel is named after one of my western Maryland homewaters, the Savage River. I’ve been uploading at least three new videos a week (usually Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday).
Thanks for stopping by. Please let me know in the comments if you have any tips or tricks that could help me or anyone else watching.
