Riffled water in trout streams is like a magnet to trout. High oxygen, great overhead cover, a constant food source all equate to this location being a prime trout lie. No doubt there will be trout present, especially if the water is thigh depth or deeper. Dry flies will work peak of season or during hatches, streamers will produce a few willing trout as well. But to have a go at catching multiple fish from shelving riffles, deep nymphing is a great way to catch fish in this location. One method is using 2 weighted nymphs under an indicator and methodically working the water. Let’s join Amelia as she works a shelving riffle with a tricky log across the water.
