Fly Tying the Hotspot Perdigon Nymph Pattern
One of the easiest flies you can tie, with probably the biggest bang for your buck regarding fish-catching effectiveness. You can vary the tail, the body color or the hotspot color– a very versatile fly.
Hook: #12-20 nymph
Thread: Any color, size to match hook
Tail: Any feather fibers, tied sparse
Body: Any color Krystal flash or thread and tinsel
Hotspot: Thread, any bright color
Bead: Tungsten, size to match hook
Savage Flies is a project (named after one of my homewaters, the Savage River in Western Maryland, US). I’ve been trout fishing for many years but have only been tying for the last couple and am learning more every week. If you have any pointers on techniques that would help, I would love to hear them in the comments.
I’ve been posting new videos every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 1:00 pm EST.
