Fly Tying from Craft Store Materials (and Name that fly contest!)
A super simple fly pattern that most resembles a midge pupa. This was tied with only two materials– a glass bead and some roving roll wool. Both readily available from craft stores.
To enter our third “Name the Fly” contest, simply leave a comment with a clever name and in a couple of days I’ll have my kids pick the most fun name for this guy. And just to make it more fun, I’ll send the winner a $25 gift card to J. Stockard.

Savage Flies is a project with the mission of encouraging and teaching fly tying to as many people as possible. The channel is named after one of my western Maryland homewaters, the Savage River. I’ve been uploading new tying videos every Tuesday and Friday, with the occasional extra video on other days.
Thanks for stopping by. Please let me know in the comments if you have any tying tips you would like to share or if you have any patterns you would like to see tied here.
