Rio Getter!

11/10/2019/i Bonefish - Permit fluer, Tarponfluer, Tropiske Saltvandsfluer, Video, Video - Bonefish flies, Video - Permit flies, Video - Tarpon flies /af McFly Angler

This fly is a very versatile pattern. It was created by Matt Bennet to fish Rio ciclids. But when tied a little larger, it can be very effective for just about every species of fish in south texas rivers and lakes. Bass, bluegill, sunfish, catfish, trout, and most of all Carp. If you tie this fly on a slightly larger hook, it will make one of the best carp flies out there. Keep the tail a little longer and the legs as well (at least that’s what I would do). However for Rio Ciclids, Matt told me to keep the tail and legs short, because rio’s will nip the tail to move them off their nest and miss the hook. Matt himself tied this fly on video, and the video is very high quality. If you want to see him tie it, then please go check out his video at youtu.be/9svUn6–CTI

Also I’ve been told that it’s best to use brass dumbbell eyes for this fly as rio’s like to eat off the bottom and brass will get you there faster. Being new to this area and not fishing for rio ciclids my whole life, I didn’t know this fact. We all gotta learn somewhere…

Also Picture of the Rio Ciclid was provided by Paul from Killer Fuzz, please check out his channel as he has some awesome footage of fishing around these texas waters. You can see his channel by clicking this link… www.youtube.com/channel/UCMcCAix0u6yIvFvRY6vpg3Q
