Lake Powell, Utah is one of the best places on earth to have fun. Whether its slalom water skiing, like my wife prefers, or fly fishing striper boils there is an unlimited supply of awesomeness there.
When stripers are jumping and flailing all around you it can get so exciting that technique goes out the window. The first few boils of the trip had me so excited I couldn’t hardly make a decent cast. Casting and filming from a wave runner proved to be fun, effective, and challenging. The quiet engine, and the low profile allowed me to get closer to the boils than a boat, and made fly casting possible. A bubble head popper was the most exciting fly as the fish would chase, swipe, and inhale it all right at the surface. Any color of Clouser minnow was super effective as well.
This video was filmed at Lake Powell during a family trip this September. The fishing footage was done by my lonesome with my Canon T2i using an Ewa Marine underwater housing. Since I was by myself there were many instances that proved difficult to film, but I’m pleased with the overall outcome. The awesome canyon cruising footage, and the lizard were shot by Phil using a GoPro Hero 2, and his Nikon D3100. They turned out great.
