Fortress Lake Scenes 2012

We arrived to a substantial snow load still in the mountains in 2012! It was an amazing year for avalanches coming off the mountains to the south side of the lake, the loud rumblings lasting through early July. There had been a few substantial avalanches late in winter that actually reached the lake along the south shore well away from our retreat (we’re on a fan well out of harms way). These avalanches left a trail of downed trees 4 feet across, as well as massive piles of snow and ice on the lakes shore, making for some quite dramatic scenes. We thought to share these with you – greetings from Fortress Lake Retreat!
