    The Atlantic Salmon Atlas

    En velgjort oversigt over alverdens laksevande – med få mangler…

    Der må ligge et enormt arbejde bag Roy Arris og Malcolm Greenhalghs flotte atlas og vejviser til Atlanterhavs laks. Et imponerende men dog ikke fuldstændigt værk. Det skærer lidt i øjnene, at Danmark ikke nævnes overhovedet på trods af store laksefangster de seneste år. Forfatterne har dog helgarderet sig med at udgive et årlig opdaterende tillæg, og i den førstkommende udgave af dette er Danmark med.

    Bogen er et storstilet privat projekt på et nystartet forlag, og det er ikke ambitioner det har skortet på under tilblivelse af dette atlas. Intet mindre end 327 elve og floder er repræsenteret. Fordelingen er således: Canada (40), Irland (36), Skotland (70), England og Wales (30), Island (29), Norge (79), Sverige og Finland (22) og Ruslands Kola Halvø (10). Som sagt er Danmark ikke med i denne første udgave.

    Atlaset er udgivet i stort format og i hardback udgave. Udgivelsen er illustreret med en række flotte farvefotos, samt kort og oversigter af forskellig art. Der har været rygter ude om en billigere paperback udgave, men den er pt. ikke i handelen.

    Atlaset er overordnet opdelt i fem regionale kapitler, hvor disse igen typisk er opdelt geografisk efter nord, syd, øst og vest i det enkelte land. Der er som sagt rigtigt mange elve at finde, men værket er som nævnt ikke totalt, og det er muligt at gå forgæves. Vægtningen af de enkelte elve omtalt i bogen kan diskuteres i det uendelige, og her mener jeg forfatterne har gjort et fornuftigt stykke arbejde.

    De enkelte kapitler ikke underlagt en fast skabelon for hvilke oplysninger, der kan findes i dem og det kan undre en del. I nogle kapitler er der en introduktion til landet – i andre hvilke rejse- og overnatningsmuligheder der findes. Hvor oplysningerne kan findes er heller ikke helt stærkt struktureret.

    En glimrende bog med nogle svagheder. Jeg ser frem til at se opstramning i det årlige tillæg.
